Day 19 – 23 November, Jaipur (Day 3) – Our Perfect Leader – by Syamarani devi dasi

Posted under Diary

I will briefly sum up what transpired on our last day in Jaipur.  We went for mangal aarti at the Gopinatha temple.  If ever you have a chance, and have not done so as yet, please go and have darshan at the temples of Radha Madan Mohana, Radha Govinda and Radha Gopinatha – these are the original deities. Day 18 – 22 November, Jaipur Town (Day 2) – by Syamarani devi dasi

Posted under Diary

When the alarm went off this morning, I felt like hitting the snooze button and taking some more time out.  But I could hear the other devotees were already up.  I most definitely did not want to loose out on any action.  I survived the cold shower and did not spend too much energy being upset about the lack of proper facilities – this was India after all!  If ever you find yourself in Jaipur – try not to stay at Stephels.  At this hotel, each time you leave the room, the caretakers would come and switch of the electricity as the mains were outside each room.  So if you left your cellphone or ipod charging with the hope that it will be done by the time you get back – then too bad for you.  We gathered at Jai Singh Palace, the hotel where the other devotees were staying.  Surprisingly, we left on time.  When we got to the Radha Govinda temple, Guru Maharaj was already there. Day 17 – 21 November, Karauli, Jaipur (Day 1) – The Amazing Race – by Syamarani devi dasi

Posted under Diary

I was reflecting on our parikrama yesterday and I was thinking about some devotees who, even though they found it extremely challenging, insisted on completing the entire parikrama on foot.  Even though they were constantly offered options like taking rickshaws, etc they kept on saying “no, we’re almost there”.  They did extremely well to see the parikrama to the end with no shoes on.  Those devotees will not be with us for the rest of the parikrama and they will be missed. Day 16 – 20 November, Govardhan Parikrama No.2 – by Syamarani devi dasi

Posted under Diary

Today was the last time that most devotees would be going out on parikrama with Guru Maharaj and it would mark the end of their parikrama 2008.  One bus with approximately 50 devotees or so set off for the 26km parikrama around Govardhan. Read the rest of this entry »

Day 15 – 19 November, Maan Sarovara, Bhandiravan, Syamavan, Baelvan, boat ride across Yamuna – by Syamarani devi dasi

Posted under Diary

Today we were expecting a calm day, although this would be our practice run for the all important second Govardhan parikrama tomorrow.  When Guru Maharaj got onto the bus and sat down he said “this is a stabilisation programme for the body – I can’t move”.  Guru Maharaj was pointing out that there was no room to move his legs at all.  The devotees always gave Guru Maharaj the first seat but it was the most uncomfortable one in the bus.  I knew all about it as I sat with the exact same arrangement on the other side of the bus.  We were travelling like this all these days of the parikrama and not once did Guru Maharaj complain about discomfort. Day 14 – 18 November, Raam Ghat, Chir Ghat and Others – by Syamarani devi dasi

Posted under Diary

At this stage of the parikrama we had down-sized from 100 or so to approximately 50 devotees.  As a result we went out with only 1 bus.  Today we had another new driver.  He was not as jolly as Ganga our driver of yesterday. Read the rest of this entry »

Day 13 – 17 November, Kamyavana – by Syamarani devi dasi

Posted under Diary

So this morning, we met and we all got onto the bus, including Guru Maharaj.  We were ready to go but we could not find our bus driver!  After some calls and endeavour he joined us.  To our surprise we had a very jolly bus driver compared to the usual Mr Grumpy that we had with us most of the time. Day 12 – 16 November, Kadamba Kandi – by Syamarani devi dasi

Posted under Diary, Videos

We set off bright and early.  The bus dropped us of at the beginning of a village, about an hours walk away from Kadamba Kandi.  We walked through Sunira – the village of Sudevi.  It was a long walk and when we eventually arrived we visited a small temple with only a picture on the altar. Day 11 – 15 November, Radha Kund, Shyama Kund & Surya Kund – by Syamarani devi dasi

Posted under Diary

By now the early mornings and brisk walking started taking its toll on our bodies but this was the day that we looked forward to – bathing in Radha Kund and Shyama Kund.  We met early as usual and most of us had not as yet missed a day on parikrama.  Our bus driver dropped us off at Kusum Sarovara and we walked down to Radha Kund – where we would begin our day. Day 10 – 14 November, Vrindavana Town – by Syamarani devi dasi

Posted under Diary

Today we met at 10am (not 4pm like I hoped) and we took rickshas to the Radha Vallabha temple.  At least we had the morning to rest.  This temple is 1 of the old temples of Vrindavana.  This temple was built at the time of the 6 Goswamis when the Radha Govinda and Madan Mohan temples were built.  The original temple was destroyed by Aurangzeb and the deities were moved to Kamyavan where they resided for 115 years.  Then they moved to this temple.
