A report from Caitanya Prema das from Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, in Russia

Posted under Diary

Dear devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

All glories to Guru Maharaj!

Guru Maharaj arrived in Krasnoyarsk in the morning of May, 16th. For the local devotees this is always a very big event, since here in Siberia we are not spoilt with frequent association of Srila Prabhupada’s disciples. They only visit us once or maximum twice a year. Therefore everyone was looking forward to meeting Guru Maharaj after a long period of time. Read the rest of this entry »

Day 31, Thursday, 08/05/08

Gurudev worshipped Giriraj, whilst I used the (common) bathroom. We had a full morning program, then japa. Whilst Gurudev was settling into His armchair to begin chanting, Paramisvarah offered to cover His legs with a blanket. Gurudev graciously accepted. When Paramisvarah asked Gurudev if He was warm enough, He replied, “As snug as a bug in a rug.” Read the rest of this entry »

Day 26, Saturday, 03/05/08

Gurudev entered the lounge at 06h30, and I had already set up for the puja. Gurudev chanted japa for a while, then performed the puja to Giriraj. Since Gurudev was using sandalwood oil to massage the Lord’s body for this entire trip, He didn’t use Giriraj’s silver tilak, eye and mouth pieces. Yet still the Lord looked so handsome with His new turban on! While I offered Giriraj the breakfast bhoga, Gurudev watched me from His armchair, and chanted japa. Deva Deva, who is a pujari at New Jaganath Puri, showed me some more details of how to make an offering to the Deity, which was over and above the basics that I knew. Gurudev took His breakfast of fruit by 07h20. He had to be in Durban by at least 09h00 for the National Council Meetings so we left by 8am. On the way, Gurudev asked me to find out from Nityananda Prana about the evening’s program at Clare Estate Tent Campaign. As soon as we arrived at Sri Sri Radha-Radhanath, Gurudev desired to pack His bags for His international travels, and guided me as to what I should pack. Read the rest of this entry »

Day 19, Saturday, 26/04/08

We arrived at the aiport ten minutes after Gurudev was to have landed since Rakesh was delayed in traffic. It was obviously beyond his control, but still I was very much in anxiety. My attempts to convince the security personnel to let me into the luggage claim area proved fruitless. He did let me stand at the entrance, though, and from this vantage spot I scanned the area for Gurudev. To my great surprise, I saw Gurudev wheeling His trolley towards me! I offered my obeisances, taking over from Gurudev in wheeling the trolley. Gurudev walked out of the terminal and I walked beside Him. Rakesh had just entered the terminal, and his daughter, Saishna, offered Gurudev a rose. Rakesh garlanded Gurudev and offered his obeisances. As we walked through the terminal, Gurudev turned to me and asked, “What’s our program?” I briefed Him on the plan for the rest of the day. Whilst being driven to the temple, Gurudev spoke to Saishna. She was not her usual bubbly self, and her parents explained that she was sick. Gurudev showed great concern and compassion at hearing this, “We will pray to Krsna to make you better.” Read the rest of this entry »

Day 13, Wednesday, 09/04/08

Gurudev said that He’d have fruit for breakfast. Gurudev requested that I watch the sannyasa initiation section of the Ratha Yatra DVD. A devotee from our congregation, named Karuna,  kindly offered the use of his car to drive Gurudev around for the next few week. Robin Prabhu came to fetch Gurudev for His luncheon appointment and katha at his home. On the way, Gurudev spoke about chanting japa. Those of us who know Gurudev, are by now quite used to Him asking about our chanting. Its His loving concern for our eternal spiritual well-being…He mentioned to Robin something about the extra four counters that make up the usual twenty. He said that these four are for Nirjal Ekadasi, when we could chant 64 rounds, moving one of those four extra beads every time we finished a set of 64! Read the rest of this entry »

TRANSLATION
Lord Balarama bathed in the Gomati, Gandaki and Vipasa rivers, and also immersed Himself in the Sona. He went to Gaya, where He worshiped His forefathers, and to the mouth of the Ganges, where He performed purifying ablutions. At Mount Mahendra He saw Lord Parasurama and offered Him prayers, and then He bathed in the seven branches of the Godavari River, and also in the rivers Vena, Pampa and Bhimarathi. Then Lord Balarama met Lord Skanda and visited Sri-saila, the abode of Lord Girisa. In the southern provinces known as Dravida-desa the Supreme Lord saw the sacred Venkata Hill, as well as the cities of Kamakosni and Kanci, the exalted Kaveri River and the most holy Sri-ranga, where Lord Krsna has manifested Himself. From there He went to Rsabha Mountain, where Lord Krsna also lives, and to the southern Mathura. Then He came to Setubandha, where the most grievous sins are destroyed. Read the rest of this entry »
